Finally I managed to get a more recent version of aptitude from the
Daniel Burrows's darcs repository. The changelog indicades that the new
version needs apt 0.6, so I checked out the latest 0.3 version
(0.3.5.1). It was a nasty job to get the apt-rpm patches to apply
against the new source tree. Packages with %postun can now be removed. I
will play around with it next week to see if there are any issues. My
patch also needs some review.

I had a quick look. Everything seems to be the same.
